The seemingly obvious answer to this question is “Yes, of course men are hornier than women.” Who hasn’t heard the warning that men want one thing and one thing only…? And they want that one thing all the time.
But are men really “hornier” than women? No. Women’s brains don’t work the same way as men’s, but women can be just as horny.
A recent study revealed that 43 percent of men think about sex several times a day, compared to their female counterparts of only 13 percent. But thinking about sex doesn’t necessarily equate to being “horny.”
What is true is that men have testosterone shooting through their brain seven times a day—a hormone that is geared toward quick tension release. This hormone lands on a guys’ amygdale (a kin to a landing pad for a helicopter) and immediately sends sensations and messages to the guy’s brain- “Sex! Sex! Sex! Now! Please!!” This burst of testosterone can leave a guy feeling horny in a matter of minutes (sometimes even seconds).
The situation is different for us women. We have a little bit of testosterone in our systems, but for the majority we have the hormones estrogen and progesterone. These hormones directly affect our desire for connection–Physical, sexual, and yes, often emotional connection. Once a woman feels that connection is established, though, women can feel just just as turned on as a man. And they will stay turned on.
Bottom line: Girls are just as horny and just as interested in sex as men—they just get there differently. But once they’re there, they’re there.
